My first post for The Meraki Project is up! You can click on the link below or go to the menu above and click on the Meraki page. Here is a preview of Kate’s story…

I often felt the need to drink at baby showers or avoided them, or I drove home from them crying. I had miscarriages while friends were pregnant and would distance myself from them with no explanation, partial fear of scaring them I guess. Also jealously. I know from experience how to be jealous and happy for someone all at once.

I used to hear women tell me “oh I know where you are coming from, I had trouble too”, that have kids. I would think to myself, no no you don’t you have kids now, you don’t know

I was close to giving up hope after 5 miscarriages. I feel like now that I have her I can’t say I know what it feels like to not be able to have kids because I don’t, so I won’t be saying that.. but I understand now that people were just trying to comfort me and give me hope.

We were strongly considering adoption as David is still a south African citizen and we don’t qualify for state side adoption or foster care. I was going to have a child one way or another!….. read more

Sunset talks with Haley at Lake Springfield.

Life, Photography

This young woman knows better than most that life has its twist and turns. I met Mollie 8 years ago on the basketball court. Still to this day I tell people how she could twist and turn and make any shot possible. We lost track of each other until I walked into a meeting at the News-Leader and there was Mollie. A month later I received a FB message from her asking if I was up for a project. Of course I said yes. It was the best decision I could have made. Last night Mollie and I walked around Springfield and told our stories. She opened her heart to me and I opened mine. She shared that the reason she is ready to open up, is because she read my story by 7billionones. It is truly beautiful to stand next to a fellow hurting woman and be able to say, I understand and I am here for you. After many shots, giggles, real life talk, and hugs these are the images that show the real and raw Mollie. I won’t tell you her story but she will share it soon. I can’t wait for her to feel that amazing feeling when you finally let all your worries go and know that by telling your story, you have helped so many fellow women. This is Mollie.

This little girl is so loved! Her Mom is amazing with her and I am her Nana’s biggest fan! Her aunt Melanie is one of my longest friends and Faye is beyond cute and sweet. We chased ducks, played with some stuffed animals, ran around, and I even got a hug! She was a trooper in the heat! Here is a sneak of her session this morning!

Daily, Life, Love

Lead me but do not stand in front of me. Push me but do not stand behind me. Promise me but do not promise forever. Kiss me but do not kiss me goodbye. You are the one beside me, you give me strength and love that keeps me alive.
We have never been more than a few streets or a classroom door away our entire lives. Next month Britton and I have been together for 5 years! He is not only my life partner, my husband, and my best friend, he is my leader. In 5 years I have learned some of life’s greatest lessons by his side. I have received a lot of nice words about our relationship so I decided to share the things I have learned these last 5 years.
The number one thing I learned was to listen to him. Because as a Christian woman in a Christ centered relationship I truly believe the Lord speaks through Britton to me. He knows I will listen to him and follow him anywhere. I have learned that if I take the time to communicate with Britton my struggles and share in his that the Lord truly surrounds us and uses us to talk to each other. Every time I am lost Britton says the most perfect thing at the right time. He is a quiet and simple man but when he talks you better listen because it is usually important.
I have learned to hold your partner high, praise them when good deeds are done, and support them in the tough times. Show them you care and surround yourself with happiness and little exciting moments! Fighting is only an option if it is something you feel is important to your relationship or important to fight for. Above all just be happy. Find the happiness in every moment, in everyday, and every stage of life. We all go through seasons but stand firm in your relationship and you can get through anything.
I am not usually one to talk about my faith or to call my self a Christian in front of others because I feel like everyone has there own word for what they feel inside. But I am proud to say I am a woman of God and I seek his glory in our relationship.
Find a man that when he speaks to you it’s exactly what you needed to hear in that moment. Find the man who leads you by standing firm by your side and supporting you. Find a man who seeks the Lord and takes the time to know every part of you. He is out there. Mine had been by my side since day one. Sometimes the most important people have been there the entire time.
